Trpanj is one of the oldest settlements on the Peljesac peninsula, and today is, along with Orebic the largest tourist resort on the peninsula. While Orebic is situated on the southern side of the peninsula and looking at the town of Korcula, Trpanj is located on the north side and across the coastal belt that stretches from Gradac all the way to the port Ploce. Orebic and Trpanj are only 20-odd kilometers apart. Trpanj can be reached by ferry from the town of Ploce (journey takes 1 hour), or overland through the town of Ston that is 53 kilometers away. If your are visiting Croatia by plane, you can choose the Dubrovnik airport (127 km away) or the Split airport (240 km away by road, or 130 km to Ploce where you board a ferry). From the old city core of Dubrovnik the distance is 105 kilometers.
The relaxed atmosphere of this tourist resort, crystal clear sea, rocky and sandy beaches, sufficient infrastructure, will make your vacation a perfect one. In Trpanj you can find accommodation in hotels or in one of the apartments or rooms from a range of private accommodation. On the beaches in the settlement you can enjoy water sports (rowing, canoe, etc), you can recreate at the basketball and football fields or you can spend time on the bowling alley. Trpanj area is rich in vegetation, so you can take a walk down the walk board on the northern side of the settlement that is 2 kilometers long. In addition to swimming, on one of the beaches in the settlement (Pozora gravely beach near the hotel is ideal for families with children), we recommend a walk or a bike ride to the beach in the bay Duba (13 kilometers) - gravel, and Divnal (10 km) – sand/gravel or to Blace bay where you can find therapeutic mud. Some tests show that this mud helps in curing rheumatism and female genital diseases. Use of this mud of anthracite color and sumpohydroxide odor is completely free and available to everyone.
During your vacation and stay in Trpanj, make time for a tour of Peljesac vineyards, wine cellars and taverns while tasting the famous wines Dingač and Postup, or visit some of the rural households. For lovers of recreational hiking we recommend going to the top of St. Elijah (961 m). Trpanj, or the area of its present location was always attractive to people, even in ancient times. The proof of early settlement are the remains of pottery that were found on a hillside above the village of Gradina. On the top of the hill above the settlement the Church of St. Rocco was built in the 17th century. And from there a magnificent view of Trpanj and the coastal strip spreads. Apart for this church, whose patron saint is the patron of the settlement, in the settlement center you will find the church of St. Peter and Paul. In this church, also built in the 17th century, you can see some of the works of sacred art. Let us mention also the church of Our Lady of Karmel and the church of St. Anthony, where you can see a Baroque altar from the18th century. At the port you can see and interesting statue of Our Lady Star of the Sea, erected as a covenant for sailors who went to sail the world seas. On the feast of the Assumption (August 15), the locals in their boats come in front of the statue and from the boat attend the mass.
